Members of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club of Ireland are expected to:


1. Abide by the rules of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club of Ireland and the Irish Kennel Club.

2. Be familiar with the Breed Standard and not exhibit at shows Cavaliers that have been changed in appearance by artificial means, except for docking of tails and the removal of dew claws. No artificial colouring of coat or pigment.

3. Conduct themselves at all times in such a manner as to reflect credit on the ownership of Cavaliers in particular.

4. Keep accurate Breeding Records, Registration Papers and Pedigrees.

5. Only use Cavaliers which are registered with a recognised Kennel Club for Breeding

6. Maintain the best possible standards of canine health.

7. Furnish a record in respect of each puppy sold giving details of Kennel Club Registration, Transfer Documents, and Pedigree Certificate, unless written agreement is made at the time of sale and /or conditions imposed.

8. No puppies to be sold under eight weeks of age, and all puppies to be sold with a diet sheet and a record of worming and inoculations.

9. All puppies must be in good health at time of sale.

10. Puppies or litters must not be sold to Pet Shops or Puppy Dealers.

11. Stud dog owners must see the bitches Pedigree and Registration Certificate to check ownership, age and should also try to ascertain number of litters, number of puppies, and when the bitch last had a litter.

12. Breeding terms only to be taken on with a Loan of Bitch Agreement, or a written Contract, and both parties must have a signed copy of said Agreement and have full knowledge of what it entails.

13. No member should take on more dogs than they can care for in a healthy environment.

14. DOGS TO BE USED AT STUD: No dog with a known physical defect or bad temperament which could be detrimental to the health and well being of the puppy to be used at stud. Any dog to be used at stud should be in good health and be in good condition at the time of every mating.

15. BITCHES TO BE USED FOR BREEDING: No bitch with a known physical defect or bad temperament which could be detrimental to the health and well being of the puppy to be used for breeding. No bitch to be mated so as to rear a litter after her 8th birthday. No bitch should normally rear more than two litters in any two years. No bitch to be allowed more than six litters in her lifetime. No bitch to be allowed more than two Caesarean sections in her lifetime, subject to Veterinary advice, as this would indicate whelping difficulties. Any bitch to be used for breeding should be in good health, and be in good condition at time of mating.

16. OWNERS: Owners of stud dogs must only allow their dogs to be used if they are confident that their stud dog meets the criteria stated and the bitch meets the criteria stated for the bitch. Owners of bitches must only mate if they are confident that their bitch and the prospective stud dog meet the criteria as stated for dogs. Once a mating has taken place, the owner of the bitch has a responsibility for the good welfare of the puppies and as such has an obligation to help the new owners if requested to do so.
